Simon
began his career
at the tender age of 19 and in 1995 he won the Mixmag DJ Competition, his
tape was selected from over 40 thousand entries, which were short-listed to
6 finalists, Simon's skill and musical taste was the chosen one.
This led to his mind blowing set that hit Hard Times in Leeds, which at the time had been voted the ‘Best Club In Britain’. He played a main slot 11-1am, quote from Stephen Raine, Hard Times boss "I knew in five minutes, "you could tell" nodding knowingly.
His musical fusion ranges from Deep, Tribal, House through to progressive, “his sets would rock any club, anywhere in the world” - quote from Ben Turner Muzik.
Up until now Simon has played regularly at Hard Times, hosts to Mixmag and Muzik Magazine parties in Leeds along side DJ's such as Roger Sanchez, Murk and Dave Camacho. 1995 was the year the club received "Club Of The Year", Ben Turner form Muzik Magazine reckoning and stating that "Simon James from Yorkshire - is not far behind some of the established jocks he's usually put up against", review from Muzik.
In 1996 Simon played regularly at Love 2 Be in Sheffield with the likes of Farley Jackmaster Funk, Todd Terry, Roger Sanchez, Mark Moore and Allister Whitehead, including DJ and Muzik Magazine parties.
He then took up a residency at Jakkara in Edinburgh with Danny Howells, “his sets nearly causing riots within the premises, to esthatic clubbers whistling and shouting for more” quote from Mixmag Update".
Over the
years Simon has played at clubs such as the legendary Hacienda, Renaissance,
Back 2 Basics, Fabric, Republic, Progress, Whoop it Up, Miss.Moneypennys,
