Kaupuss ...

VJ/
DJ. Kaupuss AKA. DJ. Morgan McGuire Born in Edinburgh on 19/04/71 has
been a DJ since the tender age of 14. He started off by DJing at, and
running his school discos, and as soon as he left school he started working
in gay pubs and clubs in and around Edinburgh.
When he was 20 years old Morgan turned his attention to Glasgow where
he was a resident DJ in The Tunnel, the year it won UK club of the year.
He then secured himself a residency in the brand new Club X and also the long established and infamous Bennett’s Disco, both in Glasgow while holding down a long term residency at Edinburgh’s Sunday Club.
Around about this time Morgan began to lose interest in DJing , he realized that the club scene was going through massive changes and that his interests were changing too. He found he was now more inclined to be on the dance floor than behind the decks.
From this new perspective, promoting his own club night was to become his new passion.
For
the next year he ran a club called Orange which enjoyed some success bringing
a harder edge sound to Edinburgh with DJs such as Steve Thomas and Dave
Randall.
At this time Morgan discovered a new weekly club in Edinburgh called Taste,
he built up a great relationship with the promoters and DJs who encouraged
him to stay involved in the club industry And it was at this time he began
to develop an interest in the visual aspect of clubbing .The term VJ was
virtually unheard of at the time and in the beginning what he did was
little more than cut and paste images to create a visual show to go along
with the feel of the music. He got his break when he was invited to join
the Taste team who were interested in developing the visual side of their
club and were willing to invest a lot of money into the equipment and
software needed to develop the art form while it was still in its early
development stages. This gave Morgan the opportunity to become heavily
involved with the visual aspect of the club, and from this collaboration
V.J. Kaupuss was born.
Since then V.J. Kaupuss has gone from strength to strength. Not only has he been solely responsible for the visual aspect of Taste and Fever but he has received commissions to produce visuals for many different shows and club nights all around the world.
He
has done work for DJs such as:
Green Velvet, Felix Da Housecat, Rob Di Stefano, Anne Savage, The Sharp
Boys, Jon Pleased and Mark Moore to name but a few.
He has also been commissioned to create visual shows for events such as:
T on the Fringe, Renaissance, Gig on the Green, Paterson SA Hair Shows,
as well as advertising visuals for International drinks brands Smirnoff,
Bacardi, and Gordon’s Gin.
He has also done some pioneering work, where he has made a streaming video link with music synchronized to video made available to all computer users.
Current
works in progress include a video for The Visitor aka Jon Pleased, A large
music festival in Scotland, and showcases for three other artists.
While other offers of work are constantly coming in from around the globe.
In May 2004 DJ Kaupuss teamed up with
The Visitor to take up a Once a month residency at Edinburgh’s hugely
successful Fever club night. Playing as The Visitor and Kaupuss with an
absolutely anything goes music policy, this pairing and music policy has
been so successful that it has lead to them being invited in April 2007,
to become residents at another brand new monthly venture called Trashed
which is a club night held on a boat called Cruz, permanently moored in
the Uber Trendy Shore area of Leith
